Amy Gottesman

(OT, CHT)

With over two decades of experience in physical therapy, Amy Gottesman, OT, CHT, is a seasoned professional specializing in orthopedics and upper extremity care. Her extensive career encompasses working in diverse settings such as nursing homes, homecare, and her own practice, The Hand Rehabilitation Center, which she successfully ran in Norwalk, CT, for over 10 years.

Amy’s passion for upper extremity care began during her college years when she had the opportunity to mentor a certified hand therapist in Greenwich, CT. Her professional journey started in Rhode Island, where she gained invaluable experience under the guidance of two certified hand therapists affiliated with Rhode Island Hospital’s orthopedic department. She participated in medical rounds and patient surgeries, which enriched her expertise.

Following her mentorship, Amy joined the practice of Robert Beasley, MD, in New York City. Dr. Beasley, the head of Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery at New York University, operated a private outpatient rehabilitation center where Amy honed her skills in specialized techniques and surgical procedures. During her five years in New York, she also attended surgical rounds at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Amy’s diverse experience includes working with sports and music-related injuries, surgical procedures, repetitive strain injuries, high-impact injuries, and custom splinting (both dynamic and static). She has also managed post-operative wound care, cold laser therapy, fractures, amputations, ergonomics, activity analysis, and workstation assessments. Her clientele has ranged from college teams and musicians to MLB players, actors, semi-pro boxers, and racecar drivers.

Amy is dedicated to helping her patients achieve a significantly improved level of function, ensuring they leave her care in a much better state than when they arrived.
