Proclinix Kids: Introducing Pediatric Physical Therapy at ProClinix

Pediatric Physical Therapy

Proclinix Kids is designed to help children ages zero-eight years old overcome limitations that prevent them from engaging with their natural environment at an age appropriate level.

We look at the quality of their movements and treat each individual child with the care that allows them to achieve their full potential. We empower parents to learn specialized techniques so that they can feel comfortable helping their children at home as well!

What to expect in pediatric physical therapy:

During the first evaluation, we will have an hour to discuss your child’s needs and history, address your concerns, evaluate your child, and create a plan that works best for your family. Regular sessions will be catered to your child’s needs and will be centered around play in order to keep your child engaged and productive!

Just like with adults, progress isn’t always linear. There may be plateaus but that is completely normal! We believe in consistent communication with parents regarding progress to help you understand expectations and home exercise programs.

How can playing help treat my child’s impairments?

Children aren’t going to count reps, and they shouldn’t have to! As we know, the attention span of the average child is not very long! What motivates them looks very different from what motivates an adult. That is why pediatric physical therapy often looks a lot like play.

For example:

  • A 52-year-old with quadriceps weakness will count three sets of 10 to help strengthen her quads.
  • A six-year-old with quadriceps weakness will likely kick a soccer ball from a sitting position into a makeshift goal in order to earn a sticker.
  • A 30-year-old with glute weakness will perform 3 sets of 10 of glute bridges and sit to stands to strengthen their glutes
  • A three-year-old with glute weakness will most likely frog jump from lily pad to lily pad in order to complete her game
  • A 82-year-old with core weakness will perform pelvic tilts for 10 reps and 10 second holds
  • A five-month-old with core weakness will visually track a light up toy in order to roll over and therefore activate their core

Children have all of the same muscles as we do! Half the battle is just finding different ways for us to work those muscles in an age appropriate and stimulating way!
